TEMULAWAK, Curcuma xanthorrhiza

Curcuma zanthorrhiza Roxburgh, 1820 - Synonyms Curcuma xanthorrhiza. This plant originated from Indonesia, more specifically from Java island. It is known in Javanese as temulawak. We have the real temulawak.

Curcuma zanthorrhizais used more as a medicinal plant due to its active ingredients (anti-oxidant and anti-edemic) the curcuminoids.

Temulawak is a mild spice used in several drinks to give these flavor and color (yellow), in Indonesia is use for soft drink which could be called as TEMULAWAK ALE where in bahasa Indonesia called as BIR TEMULAWAK. Temulawak is Ginger family (Zingiberaceae).

It is also used for seasoning food in the Indonesian cuisine.

It has an aromatic, pungent odor and a bitter taste.
